This Moment Matters

by | Oct 22, 2016

We live in a state of what has been called “continuous partial attention.” If we’re not careful, our attention is under fire from the moment we wake up until the moment we go to sleep. When your attention is pulled in so many directions–all the time–it’s hard to know what you really need to pay attention to. If we acknowledge that this moment matters, then the question is: what matters in this moment?

This week’s Awake at Work micropractice “This Moment Matters” reels our focus in from the myriad of things demanding your attention and centers it on what’s most important in this moment. It can be exhausting to have your attention divided among so many different things. Bringing yourself back to the essential frees space in your mind and creates an enhanced receptivity to insight and ideas.

Reflection
What is the one thing that matters most right now?

Notice what happens when you make the essential the focus of your life? Notice how you feel when you live and work with full attention rather than partial or distracted attention. Amidst the sea of demands and possibilities let yourself be anchored by what matters most in this moment. You may discover that what matters most is the moment.
